Waldeck
The House of Waldeck descended from the
ancient immediate Counts of Schwalenberg [10: Neue Folge; Band I.3;
t.324-332] [9: 1942; p.128-130].
Volkwin II and Widekind II, the sons of Count
Widekind / Witikind I of Schwalenberg, founded, respectively, the branches of
Waldeck and Pyrmont.
The branch of Pyrmont became extinct in 1494, and
the County of Pyrmont passed to the Counts of Lippe, and then to Counts of
Gleichen.
Christian (+1637), and Wolrad III (+1640), the
sons of Count Josias of Waldeck (+1588), founded, respectively, the Junior
Wildungen and the Junior Eisenberg branches.
In 1692, the Junior Eisenberg branch became
extinct in the male line (N.1).
In 1673, Anna-Elisabeth of Ribeaupierre /
Rappoltstein (+1676), the first wife of Count Christian-Ludwig of
Waldeck-Wildungen (+1706), advanced claims to Ribeaupierre, Hohenack,
Géroldseck [-ès-Vosges / -am-Wasichin / am-Wasgau ], and
other possessions of her uncle Johann-Jakob (+1673), the last male
representative of House of Ribeaupierre / Rappoltstein.
Friedrich-Anton-Ulrich (+1728), and Josias
(+1763), the sons of Count Christian-Ludwig of Waldeck-Wildungen (+1706),
founded, respectively, the Princely and Bergheim branches.
Notes:
1. In 1607, Wolrad III (+1640), Count of
Waldeck-Eisenberg, married Anna of Baden-Durlach (+1649), an heir to Culemborg,
Palant, Wittem, etc.
In 1625, Count Wolrad III inherited the County of
Pyrmont from the Counts of Gleichen.
In 1682, the Roman Emperor granted Georg-Wilhelm
(+1692), Count of Waldeck-Eisenberg, Pyrmont & Culemborg, a son of Wolrad
III, the title of Prince of Waldeck [8: Band 5; p.179].
In 1686, Prince Georg-Wilhelm received an
individual vote in the Council of Princes of the Imperial
Assembly.
In 1692, with the death of Prince Georg-Wilhelm
the Junior Eisenberg branch became extinct in the male line. His possessions
were divided: Culemborg, Palant, Wittem, etc. passed to his sisters;
Waldeck-Eisenberg and Pyrmont passed to the Counts of Waldeck-Wildungen who did
not get his individual vote in the Council of Princes of the Imperial Assembly.
1. The Princely branch
Friedrich-Anton-Ulrich (+1728), continued the
direct branch of the House of Waldeck.
In Jan 1712, the Roman Emperor granted to
Count Friedrich-Anton-Ulrich of Waldeck (+1728) the title of Prince [8:
Band 5; p.179].
In 1719, Prince Friedrich-Anton-Ulrich received a
voice in the Bench of Princes of the Upper-Rhine Imperial Circle [12: Band III;
p.30/ 400].
In 1803, by the Final Recess of the
Imperial Deputation, the Prince of Waldeck received an individual voice
in the Council of Princes of the Imperial Assembly.
In 1805, Prince Friedrich-Karl-August of Waldeck
(+1812), gave the County of Pyrmont to his brother Georg
(+1813).
In Aug 1806, with the abolition of the
Holy Roman Empire, the Prince of Waldeck became a sovereign
ruler.
In 1807, the Prince of Waldeck joined the
Confederation of the Rhine.
In 1812, Georg (+1813), Prince of Pyrmont,
succeeded his brother Friedrich-Karl-August in Waldeck.
In 1815, the Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont joined
the German Confederation.
In 1867, the Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont joined
the North German Confederation.
In 1871, the Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont
joined the German Empire.
In the course of the
November Revolution of 1918, the Prince of Waldeck
and Pyrmont was deposed.
